Abstract
354,692. Dealing with exhaust. SOBANSKI, L., Guetary, Basses Pyrenees, France. Feb. 6, 1930, No. 3998. Convention date, May 7, 1929. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 7 (ii).] A device for rendering innocuous exhaust gases comprises a group o f perforated baffleplates 5 of one or more metals, having their surfaces coat e d with metallic oxides which will produce a catalytic reaction, arranged as shown in the Figure in a heat-insulated pipe 3 close to the exhaust outlet 1 of the engine so that the heat of the gases is sufficient to maintain the required reaction. Preferably copper and iron sheets, arranged alternately, may be used, these sheets having had their surfaces previously oxidized by any suitable treatment, or the oxidation may be produced by operating the assembled apparatus at a suitable temperature.
