Abstract
354,691. Distant control systems. VICTOR TALKING MACHINE CO., Corner Street, Camden, New Jersey, U.S.A. Feb. 5, 1930, No. 3953. Convention date, Feb. 5, 1929. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 40 (i).] In a selective control system, more particularly for setting a wireless set in tune to any one of a number of transmitting stations, a shaft is selectively positioned by an electric motor under the control of a plurality of detents co-operating with corresponding notched discs mounted on the shaft. As shown in Fig. 1, a wireless set 11 is selectively tuned by a shaft 17 driven through a slipping friction clutch 23 and worm gearing 21, 22 by an electric motor 16. The shaft carries notched discs 24 .. 27, Fig. 2, with which co-operate detents 29, 33, 34, 35. Each disc is set to correspond to a particular station by means of the split hub 31 and clamping screw 32 which allow a free manual adjustment of the disc relatively to the shaft 17. The detents are provided with electromagnets 40 .. 43, Fig. 3, selectively controlled by corresponding pushbutton switches 47 .. 50. When it is desired to tune to a particular station the corresponding pushbutton is depressed to energize the appropriate electromagnet which attracts its detent against the action of the control spring 38. The motor is started in a series circuit and the shaft 17 is rotated until the attracted detent engages the notch in the corresponding disc. The motor continues to rotate and the clutch 23 slips until the operated pushbutton is released. In a modification the selected magnet may be maintained energized independently of its pushbutton over contacts 62 operated by the detent. This holding circuit may be interrupted either by opening the circuit 63 or short-circuiting the magnet through auxiliary contacts 65. In order to render the wireless set inactive during setting, the output or input of the set may be short-circuited at contacts 58 closed by the detents. The detents may be operated manually, operation thereof simultaneously starting the motor. Operating pushbuttons may be provided both at the wireless set and remotely in as many locations as desired, the line wires of the buttons being connected to the mechanism and the supply by connectors 56, 57 such as plug- and-socket devices.
