Abstract

353,992. Bottle-washing machines. ADAM, H., 67, Keplerstrasse, Heidelberg, Germany. May 31, 1930, No. 16917. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, July 9, 1930.] [Class 138 (i).] A bottle-washing machine of the type having an endless track operates in a manner such that the bottles remain with their mouths downwards throughout the passage on the track, the operations of soaking, rinsing, squirting, steaming, drying, &c. being carried. out while the bottles are in this position. The air may be discharged from the bottles by tubes to assist the soaking liquids to enter the bottles. Air or compressed gas may also be employed to assist the emptying of the bottles. Two forms of apparatus are shown in Figs. 1 and 3, both forms having the same arrangement for maintaining the bottles with the mouths downwards. For this purpose, the bottle holders are carried from a bottom track to an upper track by a feed-wheel 5 and curved track 6, and are pushed forwards after leaving the feed-wheel by the pressure of succeeding bottles until they reach a wheel 4 which, operating in conjunction with a curved rail, transfers them to a delivery table 12. A loading table 2 feeds a bottle to a position 3 on the wheel 4, and it is carried along in the direction of the arrow to the position 3a where it automatically pushes forward the row of bottles, in the construction shown in Fig. 1. In this construction, the lower row is subjected to the action of squirt tubes 7 arranged in tanks 12 and the upper row to the action of tubes 9 in tanks 8. From the tanks 8 the liquids flow over the outside of the bottles, as indicated. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, the bottles on the lower track are alternatively raised into the position 3d, moved longitudinally, and lowered again over squirt tubes 25. The raising and lowering is effected by cams 15 acting in conjunction with rods 16 provided with rollers 17 moving in slots 18 and carrying lifting bars 19. The bars have notches for engaging hooks 21 on the bottle holders. Movement of translation is effected by levers 23 also acted on by the cams 15.
