[Class 106 (iii).] A ticket-cancelling machine has the mechanism and a cover for the mechanism carried entirely on a supporting plate, and has concealed securing means for the cover. A supporting plate 1 is secured to a back-plate 2, having studs or buttons 3 for supporting the machine, and has a bearing 6 supporting a shaft 5 on which is pivoted the actuating handle 4. The shaft 5 is secured in position by a split pin 7 and the handle 4 has secured to it a pinion 8 which engages with a rack 9 moving in bearings 10, 11 in the plate 1 and controlled by the spring 12 bearing at one end against the plate 1 and at the other end against a pin 13 pressed into a hole in the rack 9 through a hole 14 in the plate 1. The lower end of the rack 9 carries the die 15 provided with pins 16 working in holes in a lower die 17 which has a guide-plate 18 for the pins supported slightly away from the die 17 by distance-pieces 19 so as to provide a slot 20 for the ticket. The lower die and its guide-plate are secured in position by screws passing through the lower portion of the supporting plate 1 and the heads of the screws are countersunk into the plate and covered with solder or other sealing material. A cover 21 for the mechanism is hinged to the plate 1 by a pin 22 and has a slot 26 for the ticket, a slot 23 for the handle 4 and is secured in its closed position by a spring 24 which springs into a slot 25 in the end of the cover, the slot being then filled in with solder to conceal the position. A modified form of cover is shown in Fig. 4 in which the cover is cut away slightly above the level of the slot 20 leaving two ears 27 by which it pivots on the pin 22.
