Abstract
353,533. Wavemeters. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., Columbia House, Aldwych, London.-(Clavier, A. G. and Darbord, H. R. ; 46, Avenue de Breteuil, Paris.) April 30, 1930, No. 13334. [Class 37.] A wavemeter for short-wave lengths comprises, a pair of rods 1, 2 having a thermo-couple 3 connected at their junction on one side of a metallic screw 4, an indicator G being located at the other side. The rods are adjustable through apertures in the screen and are insulated therefrom thus forming condensers of small importance to highfrequency currents which are confined to one side of the screen, continuous current passing along the rods to the indicator at the other side of the screen. The thermo-couple may be mounted in a vacuum tube, or a bolometer may be used as an indicator. The plane of the rods may be rotated in order to determine the plane in which the waves are polarized. In a constructional form, Fig. 11, the screen comprises relatively rotatable portions 4, 41, the rods 1, 2 passing through an insulating block 17. The portion 41 of the screen carries a member 27 in screw-threaded engagement with a tube 23. A rotatable cylindrical member 31 is located within the tube 23 and is in screw-threaded engagement with a head 33 in which the rods 1, 2 are mounted. An end disc 24 has three rods 36 which pass through apertures in the head 33 as the member 31 is rotated. Scale markings are provided on the parts 411, 34, 25.
