Abstract
353,375. Rectifying alternating current. FOUNTAIN, G. R., 1, Dalton Street, West Norwood, London. Jan. 17, 1931, No. 1642. [Classes 38 (ii) and 38 (iv).] In a mains supply unit for wireless sets &c., a rectifier normally used for the supply of grid bias voltages is arranged to be switched over to alternative terminals for charging a secondary battery, when the set is not in use. The mains transformer has one secondary coil a connected to a rectifier c for the supply of plate voltages, and a further secondary coil b connected to a rectifier d, the output from which is connected to switch terminals e, f. When the radio set is in use, a double-throw switch connects terminals e, f to terminals m, n which supply grid bias at points q, r through a potentiometer o and a smoothing circuit. When the set is idle, the switch may be thrown over to connect terminals e, f to terminals g, h and so enable a battery connected at j, k to be charged from the rectifier d.
