Abstract
353,058. Mounting radiators on motor vehicles. HIVES, E. W., Rostern, Duffield Road, Mickleover, Derby. April 16, 1930, No. 12014. [Class 79 (iii).] The engine radiator on a motor vehicle is supported substantially beneath its centre of gravity in a manner to permit slight lateral rocking movements and is held resiliently to the chassis frame at each side of the central support, the upper end of the radiator being connected by a rod to the dashboard in usual manner. The central support is provided by a capped casting c<1> bolted to the underside of a transverse channel-shaped chassis member b and forming a seating, with interposed friction lining e2, for a hemispherical member e fitted on a boss d projecting from the base of the radiator a through an opening c in the chassis member. The parts are pressed together by a rubber block f or other resilient means arranged around a stud e<4> carrying a distance sleeve e<3>. The resilient tie, Fig. 4, at each side of the central support comprises a stud projecting from a boss g on the radiator and carrying a sleeve k with a central flange k<1> arranged between annular rubber blocks l, l<1> or like resiJient members housed in a casing n secured to a depending pocket b<2> on the chassis member b, adjustment being provided for by means of spacing collars m, m<1> and an end nut j<1>.
