Abstract

353,052. Windscreen wipers. ASTON, W. H., 52, Chatham Road, Kingston-on- Thames. April 14, 1930, No. 11713. [Class 138 (i).] A windscreen wiper or the like comprises one or more wipers 1 held in carriers 22 attached to parallel metal bands 2 running round pulleys 3 adjustably mounted on a windscreen 11, or on a detachable frame carried by the windscreen. The lower pulley is adjustable vertically by means of a threaded bolt 6, Fig. 2, or preferably by a spring 7, Fig. 1. The pulleys can also be adjusted horizontally for distance, to and from the windscreen, by threaded rods 10. In one modification, the members 1 are removed from contact with the screen and are tilted and driven so fast as to prevent access of rain to the surface 11. The pulleys carry projections 9 to engage perforations in the bands 2. Guards 20 may be provided to enclose the pulleys and bands and prevent accident. The guard may be supported by an angle member 19 so set as to force the guard against the screen. Narrow elastic washers may be used where necessary to give an elastic bedding.
