[Class 83 (iv).] Mandrels.-A tube with an internally thickened end is produced by making an annular constriction in the tubular blank which is then abutted against the shoulder b<2> of a mandrel and then pilgered. The first part of the pilgering forms the thickening on the smaller part b<1> of the mandrel and extends the tube until it abuts against the stripping sleeve c when the further pilgering causes it to elongate in the other direction as in Fig. 3.
