[Class 120 (ii).] The spindles of a ring spinning and twisting frame are arranged in curved lines at the front and rear of the frame and carry V-shaped driving wheels engaged by round belts carried at the ends of the frame by driving wheels fixed on horizontal shafts, the lower parts of the belts hanging freely to strain the upper parts which are pressed against the spindle wheels by pressing wheels. As shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3 the frame comprises four machines arranged in pairs at the front and rear of the frame and the belts 68 driving the spindles 65 are carried by wheels 13, 13<1> on shafts 2, 43<1> at each end of the frame, each shaft being driven through fast and loose pulleys. Each shaft 2 carries a worm gear 6 meshing with a gear 5 on a shaft 7 geared to a shaft 12 which drives a shaft 16 running longitudinally of the frame. At opposite ends of the frame each shaft 16 carries a worm gear 19 geared to a vertical building-motion shaft 21 carrying a worm 25 meshing with a gear 24 on a shaft 23 ; a chain wheel 22 on the shaft 23 carries a chain 26<1> passing over a wheel 26 and connected to the ring rail lifter rod 80. The shafts 43<1> carry pulleys 48<1> driving the shafts 55 carrying the lower driving rollers 54, the upper rollers 56 being supported in bearings 60 having arms to support the rollers in an inoperative position. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also gearing for actuating the lifter rods 80 to build the bobbins on the spindles 65, such gearing consisting of a mangle wheel 29, Fig. 6 (cancelled), geared to the shaft 23 of the chain wheel 22 and to a pinion 30 on a shaft 28 slidable in a slotted arm 38 fixed to the frame. The mangle wheel 29 also carries a cam 32 connected by a chain 34 with a disc 33 on a shaft 34<1> which also carries a pulley from which a cradle 36 carrying the wheel 26 is suspended ; the wheel 26 is engaged by the counterweighted chain 26<1> connected to the lifter rod 80 and passing over the chain wheel 22.
