Abstract
351,998. Blasting tampings. KRUSKOPF, H., 62, Bismarckstrasse, Dortmund, Germany. April 2, 1930, No. 10482. [Class 9 (i).] A method of tampins blasting explosives in boreholes consists of using a tamping cartridge filled with rock dust or sand which is inserted, after the explosive charge and detonator, into the borehole, the mouth of the latter then being closed with a wad or plug of plastic material, In one construction the tamping cartridge a is maintained within a borehole c by a wad b of clay. The tamping cartridge comprises a cover partially filled with rock dust or sand and the non-filled end passes through the plug and hangs loosely outside the hole. In this manner. the cartridge may be readily removed in the case of a missfire. Hygroscopic substances may be mixed with the wad to prevent it from drying. In an alternative process, the loose end of the cartridge cover is compressed within the hole under the wad.
