Abstract

350,683. Rolling ; working at specified temperatures. WEIGEL, H., Gut Sechof, Ecking, Post S÷llhuben, Germany. May 12, 1930, No. 14561. [Class 83 (iv).] Steel wire is rolled in a continuous mill and is cooled between roll passes by oil or water sprays b<1>, b2. The ingot leaves the furnace at a temperature of about 1150‹ C., with a carbon content of À5 per cent, and is preliminarily rolled in about seven stages until it arrives at the square pass rolls V at a temperature of 900‹ C. The wire then passes through a loop return guide g<1> whence nozzle bl sprays it to about 830‹ C. and it passes to the oval pass rolls IV and then is returned to square pass rolls III after which it is spray cooled at b2 to 700‹ C. and then passes through oval pass rolls II to finishing pass I. It is then wound up on a reel at a temperature of from 680-700‹ C.
