350,112. Three-colour optical systems. TECHNICOLOR MOTION PICTURE CORPORATION, 120, Brookline Avenue, Boston, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Troland, L. T. ; 120, Brookline Avenue, Boston, U.S.A.) April 1, 1930, No. 10333. Convention date, April 2, 1929. [Class 97 (i).] Three - colour optical systems comprise a common objective o for the three im ages 6, 7, 8 and a prism unit formed of three prisms 1, 2, 3 cemented together with inclined partial reflecting surfaces 4. 5. The partial reflectors intersect nearer to the ends adjacent to the objective o than the ends adjacent to the focal planes, such intersection being sufficientlv removed from the middle of the reflectors to avoid objectionable shadows. In one example, as shown in the Figure, the reflecting surfaces 4, 5 are equally inclined to the main optical axis and intersect at the point a in the upper surface of the prism unit. In a seco d example the surface 4 is inclined at 45‹ and the surface 5 at the same angle as in the Figure, the intersection of the surfaces being somewhat within the prism unit. In this example the image 6 is parallel to the objective axis. The reflecting surfaces may be constructed to transmit different proportions of the incident light from the objective.
