Abstract
350,074. Pipe joints. FRENCH, A. W., Mysto Works, Ladywood, Birmingham. March 18, 1930, No. 8627. [Class 99 (i).] Part of the canvas cover 3 and flexible metal liner 1 of a hose pipe is cut away to expose the rubber portion 8 which is clamped between shoulders on a spigot member 16 and a socket member 4 which is screwed on to the hose. The spigot has an extension 19 which extends to the cut back liner, and is screwed into the socket which is screwed on to the end of the hose. Instead of the corresponding conical shoulders 14, 17, the spigot and socket may have shoulders forming a recess which accommodates a bead formed by turning over the end of the hose. Two couplings are joined by a union nut 28 which is mounted on one socket by expanding the end of the extension 27. A packing ring 31 is provided.
