Abstract
350,036. Blasting fuzes and detonators. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I., Wilmington, Delaware, U.S.A. March 11, 1930, No. 7879. Convention date, March 18, 1929. [Classes 9 (i) and 9 (ii).] A mixture of a sulphocyanate such as that of lead or copper, an oxygen carrier such as a chlorate, perchlorate or nitrate, and a nitrocellulose smokeless powder or other fuel is used as ignition material g around the ignition wire c of an electric fuze. For example, the ignition mixture may contain 30 to 50 per cent of lead sulphocyanate, 10 to 30 per cent of potassium chlorate, and 30 to 50 per cent of ground smokeless powder. The leads b of the fuze pass through an asphaltic plug f, a waterproofing compound e, and a sulphur plug d in a known way. The casing a contains any suitable detonating charge, for example a main charge of pressed tetranitromethylaniline and a primary charge i of a mixture of 90 parts of fulminate of mercury and 10 parts of potassium chlorate in a capsule h, or, the primary charge h may be lead azide with lead styphnate mixed with it or superimposed upon it.
