Abstract
349,813. Sluice valves. BERTRAM, J. N. and GRAY, F. W., 141, Leith Walk, Edinburgh. June 28, 1930, No. 19720. [Class 135.] A sluice valve for controlling the passage of stuff in papermaking machines comprises two flanges 1.. 4 with an interposed sluice valve plate, one of the flanges 4 being mounted as a slidable sleeve upon the conduit 3 in substantially coaxial relationship with the other so as to provide for selfadjustment. In the form shown the flange 4 is mounted with a split intermediate ring 10 having an inner concave surface 13 co-operating with a corresponding surface 14 on the conduit, so that slight longitudinal or angular displacements of one conduit relatively to the other are provided for. The flanges are held together yieldingly by bolts 8 and springs, as shown, the bolt holes in one flange being enlarged so as to provide for lateral displacements of the flanges. The sliding surfaces of the parts contacting the ring 10 may be formed with grooves which fill with the stuff and tend to prevent leakage.
