[Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi).] Valves; cylinders, ports and passages of.- In a two-stroke engine, exhaust at 16 and inlet at 13 are controlled by a sleeve valve 11 having corresponding ports 17, 14 and acting in conjunction with the piston. The sleeve may lag behind the piston, in which case the sleeve controls the time of opening of both inlet and exhaust ports, and the piston determines their time of closing. Alternatively, the sleeve may be in advance of the piston and determine the opening of both ports and the closing of the inlet ports, the piston controlling the closing of the exhaust port. The inlet passage 13 in the cylinder, and the sleeve port 14 are inclined upwardly and tangentially. Valve gear.-The sleeve valve 11 is reciprocated by an eccentric 18 connected to a lug 22 by a pin 21, on which is mounted a roller 28 working in a guideway 29 on the crank case. Regulating.-A manually-actuated controlling- member 23 is provided for the inlet 13.
