Abstract
348,949. Snap-action switches. FAIRWEATHER, W., 29, St. Vincent Place, Glasgow.-(Singer Manufacturing Co. ; Elizabeth, New Jersey, U.S.A.) July 8, 1930, No. 20624. [Class 38 (v).] Bases; contacts; indicators, applications of. - A snap - switch comprises a cover, in which is journalled a switch - key, and a u n i t switch - section including a fixed contact-carrying casing and a rotary contact-member journalled in the casing. The cover and casing have interengaging means for centring these members and the key and rotary member have interengaging means for coupling them together when the cover is applied to the switch-section. The bottom of the casing and rotary member are formed to receive another switch section, so that a stack is formed having one cover and a single switch-key. Figs. 3 and 5 show a single-pole switch comprising a cover 2, a unit 1 and key 5 terminating in a recess 23 which engages a similarly-shaped projection 21 on a rotary member 9. The under side of the unit 1 is recessed at 14, and apertured at 17 to receive a projection 18 at the lower end of the member 9, which also has a bearing formed in the recess 20 in the member 2. A pair of contacts 11 in a slideway in the member 9 are pressed outwardly by a spring 13 into engagement with contacts 6 which are located on the faces of a ratchet-tooth construction arranged in a well in the unit 1. One pair of terminal lugs 7 attached to the contacts 6, are tapped to receive screws 8 in peripheral apertures 30<1> which are covered by slides 30. An indicator disc 24 fitting over the member 9 so as to be movable therewith co-operates with a window 29 in the cover 2. To make a multi-pole switch, such as 3-pole in Fig. 7, a second unit 1 is applied to the first unit so that the projections 15, 19, 21 of the second unit engage respectively in apertures 14, 17, 22 of the first unit. In the second unit, however, the axis of the contacts is at right-angles to that of the first unit, as shown in Fig. 7, so as to separate the terminals as widely as possible.
