Abstract
347,517. Stuffing-box substitutes. JUNKERS, H., 21, Kaiserplatz, Dessau, Anhalt, Germany. May 30, 1930, No. 16784. Convention date, June 17, 1929. [Class 122 (v).] To prevent leakage of fuel along the spindle of an internal-combustion engine suction valve 4, lubricating oil is introduced into a chamber 11 at a pressure higher than that of the charge. Oil passes from the lubricating oil system 21 through a nozzle 34 and pipe 13 into the chamber 11. A spring-loaded valve 25 open on one side through the pipe 15 to the charge pressure and on the other side to oil pressure, regulates the pressure in the chamber 11, the difference in pressures of oil and charge being equal to the pressure of the spring 25. In a modification the pipe 13 is connected to the outlet of the relief valve 33, the nozzle 34 being dispensed with.
