Abstract
A film-forming composition comprises acetone soluble cellulose acetate dissolved in a mixture of 50 parts by weight of methyl acetate, 10-40 parts by weight of ethyl acetate and 40 to 10 parts of acetone. The mixed solvents have a greater solvent power even for high viscosity cellulose acetates than the sum of the solvent powers of the ingredients when used separately. Plastifiers such as monochloronaphthalene, triphenyl phosphate, tricresyl phosphate and substituted benzene and toluene sulphonamides may be incorporated with the solution. A plastifier comprising triacetin with 10 per cent of monoacetin may be used. In an example acetone soluble cellulose acetate in powdered, fibrous, or flake form is dissolved in from 3 to 5 times its weight of the mixed solvent with one-twentieth to one half of its weight of the mixed acetin plastifier.ALSO:A film-forming composition comprises acetone-soluble cellulose acetate dissolved in a mixture of 50 parts by weight of methyl acetate, 10-40 parts by weight of ethyl acetate, and 40-10 parts of acetone.
