Abstract
344,892. Fusible cut-outs. COX, C. W., 15, Hargreaves Road, Sefton Park, Liverpool. Dec. 13, 1929, No. 38188. [Class 38 (i).] Comprises a fusible element formed of two wires or strips of copper &c. AA<1> held in coaxial relationship in a holder such as that described in Specification 337,386; their adjacent ends are separated by a narrow gap B which is bridged by a metal or alloy S of comparatively low melting- point, such as a solder, which makes an electrical conducting joint with the ends. When the current rises to 30-50 per cent in excess of full load this solder melts and breaks the circuit but when the current rises 100-150 per cent in excess of full load the whole of the element is fused. In a modified form there are two gaps bridged by solder so that a complete section falls out when the solder melts. If stranded wire is used the two sections may be united either by a single mass of solder or the strands may be separately united. Specifications 1647/83, 10530/84, [both in Class 38, Electricity, Regulating &c.], 261,067, 327,961, and 337,386, [all in Class 38 (i), Electric couplings &c.], are referred to.
