344,382. Vehicle & c. lamps. TAYLOR, H. D., Stancliffe, Mount Villas, Yorli. Nov. 21, 1929, Nos. 35571/29 and 6881/30. [Classes 39 (ii), 75 (ii), and 75 (iv).] Reflectors ; mounting reflectors on lamp casings; filaments.-A vehicle or like lamp consists of a reflector having a main paraboloidal part P-P, with a relatively large aperture compared with its focal length, and a compound supplementary part comprising a paraboloidal portion M-M and a spherical portion M-S the centre of curvation of which coincides with the focus of both paraboloidal portions, and an electric filament lamp the whole surface of the bulb L of which is left clear or made only very slightly diffusing, so as to project a beam of light having a comparatively reduced angle of spread. The supplementary part may be spun out of sheet metal and may be formed in one piece with the main part or be invisibly joined to it, or it may be made of externally silvered glass. The supplementary part may be held firmly against the main part by means of a spring Q surrounding a tube carried axially by the lamp casing and containing an inner tube to which the supplementary part and the bulb L are both attached. The front glass G may be formed with vertical cylindrical flutes to cause lateral spread of the beam. The bulb L may be fitted with a straight cylindrical coil main filament arranged slightly to one side of the axis of the lamp, and with a similar secondary filament in front of and across, or slightly to one side of, the main filament. Alternatively, the main filament may be in the form of a conical or cylindrical spiral x and the secondary filament in the form of a semicircle w around the main filament. Specification 17542/15, [Class 39 (ii), Electric lamps, Incandescent], is referred to. According to the Provisional Specifications the supplementary part of the reflector may be completely hemispherical. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 17542/15.
