Abstract
344,227. Filtering gases. BAXTER, J. P. and STEEL, E., Norton Hall, The Green, Norton-on-Tees, and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Millbank, London. March 6, 1930, No. 7322. [Class 8 (ii).] For filtering gases, a block filter of porous mineral, such as alundum or Kieselguhr, is used and the filter is cleaned by an intermittent blow-back of an inert gas applied in succession over all the walls of the filter. The filter chamber 1 is lined with acid-resisting stone and provided with four filtering walls 3 .. 5. The gas enters by the pipe 16 and is withdrawn by four tubes 12, 14. The blow-back takes place through tubes 17, 19, and may be automatically controlled by a rotating valve. The solid material is removed through the hopper 22. The process can be operated at high temperatures. Specifications 4729/86, [Class 8, Air and gases, Compressing &c.], and 317,165, [Class 90, Non-metallic elements], are referred to.
