Abstract

344,185. Fountain pens. SPAIN, A. M., Ringlestone Farm, Ringlestone, Harrietsham, Maidstone. Feb. 14, 1930, No. 4974. [Class 146 (iii).] In a collapsable-sac self-filling fountain pen the presser-bar, which is longitudinally disposed and conforms to the shape of the inner wall of the barrel, is pivoted along one of its longitudinal edges adjacent to the barrel or a liner, so that on actuation of an external member, such as a rotary knob or a lever, it will turn about its pivot and compress the sac. As shown, the presser-bar 4 is provided at its ends with projections 9 located adjacent one edge and adapted to enter grooves in metal rings 11, secured to the barrel. The upper end of the bar is provided with a further projection 16 which lies in the path of movement of a pin 15 eccentrically mounted in a knob 14 rotatable on the end of the barrel. A stop 17 may be formed in the ring in order to limit the rotation of the knob. In modifications, the presser-bar may be stamped from a metal tube which is secured in the barrel and replaces the rings 11, a metal liner may be provided in the barrel ; or a lever may be mounted in the barrel in the parts of the projection 16.
