Abstract
<PICT:0343730/IV/1> An artificial silk cake removed from the collecting box is supported on a relatively large horizontal support; a strip of textile material is placed along the top outside surfaces of the cakes, and another strip along the lower inner surfaces. The cake is then treated by causing water or other liquid to drip on to the upper strip of material. The cake support may be a perforated bobbin of artificial resin, or of metal coated with a resistant enamel, the diameter of the bobbin being about two-thirds of the internal diameter of the cake, or three or more rods may be employed, so spaced that they support the upper part of the cake in such a manner that it more or less retains its circular shape. The treating liquid may be allowed to drip from a perforated trough, and several bobbins with their distributing troughs may be placed vertically one above the other so that several cakes can be treated in succession with the same liquid. In the drawing, a slightly conical cake C is supported on a perforated bobbin B. A strip of cloth E is placed along the top outside surface of the cake and a strip of cloth F is placed along the lower inner surface. Water or other liquor supplied to a trough D drips on to the strip E and is distributed over the surface of the cake. The strips E and F minimize any crossing of the threads during the treatment and ensure an even distribution of treating liquid.
