343,390. Chemical furnaces ; hotblast stoves. VICTOR CHEMICAL WORKS, 343, South Dearborn Street, Chicago, U.S.A.-(Noyes, H. F., Weigel, R., and Easterwood, H. W. ; 1412, Shilling Avenue, Chicago Heights, U.S.A.) April 22, 1930, No. 12465. Convention date, April 29, 1929. [Class 51 (ii).] Phosphorus-containing gases are burnt in a combustion chamber 11 connected to a number of heat absorbers 14 similar in construction and operation to the air heating stoves employed with blast furnaces, and disposed so as to provide substantially equal paths 13 for the phosphorus pentoxide-containing gases from the combustion chamber. Phosphate rock is supplied to a blast furnace 5 from which the phosphorus-containing gases pass through a dust separator 7 and cleaner 8 to burners 10 in the wall of the combustion chamber 11, which is sufficiently long to enable complete combustion to take place. The combustion gases pass through ports 12 and conduits 13 to the heat absorbers 14 through reversing valves 15 and leave through mains 14a. Air from one of the mains 16 enters the heat absorbers through valves 17, and the heated air passes out through pipes 18 controlled by valves 19 to a hot blast main 20 connected by pipes 21, 22 to the tuyeres of the blast furnace 5.
