Abstract

342,802. Fluid-pressure brakes. HALL, F. H., Cleeve Cottage, Holford, near Bridgwater, Somerset. Nov. 15, 1929, Nos. 34878/29 and 10116/30. [Class 103 (i).] In an hydraulic brake for vehicles two or more pedaloperated master cylinders for forcing fluid to the brake shoe cylinders through pipe lines form a self-contained unit with a reservoir on which they are mounted. The reservoir is divided into a plurality of compartments supplying the respective master cylinders. Two vertically disposed master cylinders 1, 2, one supplying the front and one the rear wheel brakes, are cast integral with the reservoir 3 divided by a partition 4 into compartments 5, 6 supplying cylinders 1, 2 respectively through apertures 7, 8 at the bottom of the reservoirs covered by the pistons 1, 8 when the brake is operated. The two compartments are connected by an opening 11 above which is the filling opening 12. The foot pedal 14 is pivoted at 15 and operates the pistons 18 by means of an equalizing rocker 17, each arm of which is adapted to engage a stop 23 if the other cylinder fails so that one cylinder remains operating.
