Abstract
341,616. Reduction of grain. GELINCK, W. V., 2, Babelsbergerstrasse, Rehbr³cke, near Potsdam, and FAHRENHORST, W., 60, Grunerstrasse, Dusseldorf, both in Germany. Nov. 14, 1929, No. 34859. [Classes 5 (i) and 58.] Dough is produced from unmilled softened grain by passing the grain to a disintegrating apparatus furnished with cutting blades, under pressure, which, however, is not sufficient to cause the grain to be crushed or to remove the husk or bran from it before it reaches the cutting blades. The grain is fed from a hopper 26, Fig. 1, to a housing 3 and is moved forward to the cutting zone by worms 4, 5, Fig. 2, rotating in opposite directions where it passes successively through screens 18, 19, 20 and is cut by star-shaped knives 30, 31, 32 mounted on the worm shafts. The front faces 14 of the worms are cut perpendicular to their axes so that there is no tendency to move the grain radially and bruise it against the casing. Recesses 25 provided in the inner walls of the housing 3 allow the grain to reach the outer perforations of the screens ; these may be formed helically and increase in area as the cutting- zone is approached. The grain is subjected to pressure before being cut, by a suitable restriction of space between the successive threads of the worms. The dough discharges through a removable hopper 15 clamped in position by a ring 17.
