[Class 82 (ii).] In a branning-machine in which the bran falls from the rolls into the bran bin through a compound grid comprising a fixed slotted plate and a reciprocating slotted plate coacting therewith the movable plate is provided with means for ensuring that bran collecting on the solid parts of the fixed plate is discharged through the slots in the moving plate. A branning-machine with feed rolls 1, la, branning rolls 2, 2a, a bran bin 3, bran elevator 4 and bran feeding screw 5 is provided with adjustable transverse angle guides 7 between the bottom rolls 2a and a compound grid comprising a fixed plate 12 with transverse slots 13 and a movable plate 14 with slots 15 reciprocated by an eccentric rod 16 connected to a sheave 18 on a shaft 19 driven continuously by the machine itself through a chain drive 20. The movable plate 14 carries transverse strips 22 each with its lower edge almost in contact with the upper surface of the fixed plate and arranged so that when the moving plate on reaching one end of its motion begins to move in the reverse direction the strips are in position to push bran on the solid parts of the fixed plate through the opening slots in the moving plate.
