Abstract

Thioindigo dyes.-A dyestuff of the formula is manufactured by condensing 6-chloro-3-hydroxy-thionaphthene with a reactive alpha-derivative of <FORM:0341224/IV/1> 5-bromoisatin. The product dyes vegetable and animal fibres from a light yellow vat grey shades of exceptional fastness to light and exposure. In examples 6 - chloro - 3 - hydroxythionaphthene is condensed with: (1) the a-chloride of 5-bromoisatin (prepared in situ by the action of phosphorus pentachloride on 5-bromoisatin) in chlorobenzene solution; (2) with 5 - bromoisatin - p - bromoanilide (obtained from di-(p-bromophenyl)-thiourea by the Sandmeyer process) in nitrobenzene solution.
