Abstract

339,140. Kent, R. L., Morris Industries, Ltd., and Skinner, T. C. Dec. 24, 1929. Actuating by liquid pressure; single-acting bucket pumps.-In a fuel pump for internalcombustion engines, the piston i is actuated on the downstroke by a piston r which is moved by the oil circulated by the lubricating pump of the engine. The oil enters by the port w, and when the piston r is stopped by a ring v, the oil opens a valve s connected by a rod t to the piston i, thereby equalizing the pressures on the two sides of the piston r, so that the springs j, u may effect the upstroke to force the fuel above the piston i through the valve h to the engine. During the upstroke, fuel enters the chamber a through a pipe e, and during the downstroke it passes through a valve m in the piston i. The oil after passing through the valve s escapes by the port y while the port x is closed by the piston r. When the port x is opened by the upward movement of the piston r, the valve s and piston i can be moved up by the spring j.
