Abstract

338,640. Lawrence, J. Sept. 12, 1929. Service hatches.-A device for enabling goods to be delivered to a house, &c. when the door a is locked, comprises a frame c secured to the door to surround an opening j therein, a flap or cover d for the opening hinged to the upper edge e of the frame, and a vertical bolt k mounted on the inside face of the flap at its lower edge, the bolt being normally supported in the unlocking position and becoming unsupported and automatically engaging a socket or cavity p in the door, or in the plate o secured thereto, to lock the flap when the latter is allowed to fall to the closing position. The bolt is formed with a lateral projection m which extends through a slot in the bolt carrier l and, in the unlocked position, the projection m is supported in a lateral extension of the slot; the shaking- of the flap when it is allowed to fall causes the bolt to become unsupported and one or more springs may be provided to assist in maintaining the flap in the closed position.
