Abstract
338,064. Benini, Z. Feb. 14, 1929, [Convention date]. Launching torpedoes.-To the nose of a torpedo to be dropped from an aircraft a device of suitable shape and weight is attached in such a way that the torpedo axis becomes nearly vertical during the fall and the impact with the water causes the separation of the device and subsequently the starting of the engine. As shown, the device comprises two pieces A, B secured together to the nose of the torpedo by a hook C provided with a vane S. On impact of vane S against water, the hook is released, the part A comes off at once, and the part B a little later, being at first held in place by the water pressure. Meanwhile the torpedo reaches the horizontal position and the separation of the part B from the torpedo puts the internal devices of the torpedo into action.
