Abstract
337,687. Akt.-Ges. Brown, Boveri, et Cie. Jan. 16, 1929, [Convention date]. Nozzles.-A nozzle for expanding and cooling hot gases, particularly for use in gas turbines, consists of two parts. The first part 1 is of the diverging type and converts pressure into velocity without much cooling, the outside having lagging 2. The second part 3 is waterjacketed and here the gas is cooled without much loss of velocity. The steam generated in the jacket is used in a steam turbine or other engine. It is stated that if the gas passes through the part 3 with the velocity of sound this part need be only of short length to secure the desired cooling. The nozzle is formed of chromium, tungsten, molybdenum &c. alloys or of ceramic substances.
