Abstract

336,672. Wade, H., (Caro Cloth Corporation). July 19, 1929. Tufting-machines; feeding long lengths of fabric.-Fabrics are made by feeding a roll of base fabric forward at a certain rate, applying thereto, at various points and on both sides layers of fibrous material, and securing the fibres to the base fabric by tufting. The base fabric 19 is fed from a roll 20 on to the conveyer 15 of the first tufting machine 12<a>. Three layers of fibrous material 16, 17, 18 are applied to the uppermost surface of the base fabric by suitable rollers and inclines. The treated fabric 19 is then run along the floor to a roller 23 which guides it to the conveyer 24 of the next tufting machine 13, with the opposite face uppermost. Three more layers of fibrous material 25, 26, 27 are secured to this surface by the tufting machine 13 and the fabric is passed to the conveyer 31 of the next tufting machine 14 via rollers 30, where further layers of fibrous material 32, 33, 34, are attached. The fabric is then run over rollers 37, 38, 39 to the dressing and finishing apparatus.
