Abstract

335,594. I. T. S. Rubber Co., Ltd., and East, F. W. May 27, 1929. Studs, detachable or externally applied.- The tread portion 14 of a boot &c. for football &c. is made of indiarubber or other similar substance capable of being moulded and vulcanized, and inserts or ferrules 13, adapted to engage the screwed shanks of detachable or renewable studs, are embedded or incorporated therein in such a manner as to present their rotation. The studs may be of rubber or metal or of metal with rubber head portions, and the bases may be formed with radial serrations to lock with corresponding formations on the tread, and may, if desired, be further secured by cement. A buttressed ridge may be provided in or on the sole to provide a depression in which the base of the stud may rest. As shown, the insert or ferrule 13 is formed with a head portion with perforations and is moulded in the sole. A backing 22 may be provided on the sole, which may be in a number of layers. A series of sets of studs of different forms may be provided to adapt the boot &c. for different purposes. In a modified form. the inserts may be in the form of eyelets adapted to be inserted and fixed in place in the soles after they have been vulcanized.
