Packing, metallic. -In packing for highpressures, of the type in which two split rings 35, 36 are compressed by an outer split ring 37 and have bevelled ends engaging correspondingly coned rings 33, 34, the angle T of the cone of the ring 34 at the low-pressure end of the packing is made greater than the angle R of the cone of the high-pressure ring 33. In this manner the radial component X4 of the pressure Z4 of the ring 34 is made equal to the radial component X. of the pressure Z3 of the ring 33 and the extra loading on the ring 34, produced by the pressure in space between the inner periphery of the ring 33 and the shaft, is neutralized.
