Abstract
335,311. Tibbles, H. J., and Rely-a- Bell Burglar & Fire Alarm Co., Ltd. July 20, 1929. Slat and lath fabrics; collapsable gates.-A rollup screen or the like of the kind comprising a number of interconnected parallel steel bars, is extended to its operative position by chains or cords connected to the grille and passing over pulleys on a shaft arranged parallel to the drum on which the grille is wound. A guard comprises a number of rods 5, Fig. 1, connected together by chains 6 and is wound on to a drum 7 housed in a casing 9. The end bar 8 of the guard is connected by cords 12 to pulleys 13 on a shaft 14. The ends of the rods 5 pass through slots 3, Fig. 3, of guides 1, 2, and are provided with balls 20 to ensure easy running. The rods 5 may have a slight longitudinal freedom in the chains 6 by forming the rods in sections and by reducing the ends of the sections to form grooves 24. The rods may be made tubular and may contain wires the breaking of which would open an electric circuit to give an alarm; or the rods themselves may engage contacts to close the said circuit. The roller 7 may be provided with a torsion spring so that the guard may be rolled automatically thereon.
