Abstract
334,015. Brantom, H., Williams, H. G. Bawtree-, Bitton, E. A., and Storry, Ltd., H. A. July 12, 1929. Gramophone pick-ups; magnetic instruments.- A pick-up or microphone is adapted to feed the two halves of a pushpull amplifier by being shunted with a centretapped capacitative impedance, or resistance, or in the case of a moving- iron instrument bv centre-tapping the coil. In one embodiment, an armature h, Fig. 1, pivoted at h<1> and damped by rubber pads l disposed between brackets k, carried by the polepieces b, influences a coil d' with a tapping d<2> at its electrical centre. The two ends d<1> of the coil are connected to the grids of valves r, s, Fig. 3, arranged to operate in push-puil, the centre-tapping d<2> being connected through the grid battery t to the common filament circuit which is earthed. The two arms A, B, of the amplifier comprise resistance-coupled valves, the output valves feeding a centre-tapped loudspeaker o. In Fig. 4 (not shown) the pick-up, with a single coil, is shunted by a volume-control potentiometer and two condensers of equal capacity connected in series, which provide a centre tapped capacitative shunt for feeding the amplifier.
