A compressor 8 is driven by the shaft 7 on which a clutch member 6 is mounted, a further member 11 being connected to member 6 by a chain drive 12. Centrifugal expanding members on shafts 5 and 9 engage with members 6 and 11 respectively when either of the shafts reaches a predetermined speed. Shaft 5 is driven from the axle through a shaft 2 and gearbox 4 and shaft 9 is driven by an electric motor 10 which may be provided with a relay type motor starter actuated simply by connection to live mains.
