333,290. Smith, W. S., Garnett, H. J., and Dean, J. N. May 10, 1929. Insulating coverings for cables.-Submarine cables are insulated with a composition such as described in Specifications 307,390, or 332,208, [Class 70, Indiarubber &c.], in which the rubber, gutta, &c., has been deproteinized by treating it with urea, thiourea or their derivatives, with or without a proteolytic enzyme such as pepsin or trypsin, to render the proteins soluble, and removing them, for example, by washing. Such rubber may also be employed in the pressure equalizing medium described in Specification 307,087.
