Abstract

332,192. Johnson, J .Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Alct.-Ges.). March 15, 1929. 5: 8-Dihalogen-1 : 2-benzanthraquinones are prepared from 2-a-naphthoyl-3 : 6-dihalogenbenzoic acids by treatment with non-sulphonating acid condensing agents, such a.s phosphoric acid, phosphorus pentoxide, zinc chloride, aluminium chloride. The preparation of the 5: 8-dichloro- (and dibromo)-1: 2-benzanthraquinone is described in examples, the condensation being effected in nitrobenzene. It is stated that if sulphuric acid be employed as condensing agent a 5<1> 8-dichlor-1 : 2-benzanthraquinone sulphonic acid is obtained, and acting on a 2-alpha-naphthoyltetrahalogenhenzoic acid sulphonation without ring closure occurs.
