Abstract

Machines supported by rotary propellers; propelling. - In a propelling and supporting device of the kind in which one or more pairs of planes extend transversely from a middle support and are rotated by cranks about a transverse axis whilst being maintained parallel to themselves, the planes are mounted as cantilevers being attached at their inner ends only to two crank arms which provide an extended support. Fig 1 shows planes formed in one piece a secured tranversely over the aircraft body to supports b of double crank pins c. The surface a may be arranged to adjust itself automatically as a whole on the up-stroke or may be provided with flaps a<1>. In another form, Fig. 4, the wings a form extensions of crank pins b connected to projecting driving shaft ends d by double crank arms c, two of which are fitted to each end of shaft d. The crank pins b are rotatably mounted and are driven through chain and sprocket mechanism to maintain the wings parallel during rotation. A cable f serves to brace the wing frame.
