Abstract
329,708. Ohnesorge, O. Feb. 26, 1929. Driving-gear. - In rope, chain, and cable gearing for conveyers, hoisting and winding power, transmission etc., a rope etc., is wound more than once around a driving- drum upon an auxiliary endless chain, and means are provided for preventing axial movement of the points at which the rope etc., and chain wind on and off as the drum turns. For this purpose, the rope 16, Fig. 1 and 3, may be carried in leather, wood, etc., lined grooves of a chain of links 11 which may be driven by lugs 14<1> on the drum 10 and is guided by idler pulleys 12a, 12b. The links 11 are pressed axially, so as to maintain the positions of the links surrounding the drum by engagement with the curved or conical end x of the drum. The links are so pivoted together as to provide for easy flexure in all directions, and for adjustable spacing. The links may be pressed radially upon the drum by rollers upon stationary axes. The chain may comprise strips of fibre, leather, etc., forming part ot several links in series, additional metal plates being provided, if desired, to bridge the gaps between the links. Helical cams may be used to effect the axial chain movement and act through levers 38, Fig. 13, which are pivoted upon the pulley and engage stationary cams 40. Worms 30<1>, Fig. 16, may engage the links 11 and are rotated as the pulley 10 rotates, by gearing 59<1>, 60<1>, 34<1> engaging a stationary wheel 36. In a modification, teeth on the underside of the links are engaged by a spur wheel rotated by bevel gearing engaging a rotatable central wheel 36 which is geared by idlers on a stationary axis to a wheel on the shaft of the pulley.
