Abstract
329,500. Avery, Ltd., W. & T., and Sykes, C. M. May 11, 1929. Dashpots. -A liquid dashpot for use with weighing - apparatus is automatically sealed against the escape of liquid when the apparatus is removed from a counter or other support and is automatically restored to its unsealed and operative position when the apparatus is replaced on the counter. Fig. 1 shows the dashpot in its unsealed but operative position. The moving part of a weighing-machine is connected to the upper end of the piston rod 11, the lower end of which carries a piston working in a cylinder 6 containing liquid. The part 5 of the weighing-machine has secured thereon a guide 3 for the cylinder 6, a coiled spring 7 being interposed between the flange of the guide and the flange 6<a> on the end of the cylinder. When the scale is rested upon a counter 8 or other supporting, surface, the spring 7 is compressed and the cylinder is raised to the operative position shown. When the scale is removed from the counter, the spring moves the cylinder downwards until the shoulder 11<a> on the piston-rod engages the resilient sealing-washer 10 which is held in position by the cover 9. Specification 301,600 is referred to.
