Jacquards.-In a twilling jacquard, the pattern cylinder 14, Figs. 1 and 3, and the twilling cylinder 18 are arranged at opposite ends of the jacquard and are operated so as to act on their respective needles simultaneously. The cylinders are carried by rods 16, 20 slidably mounted on the frame 13, and reciprocated by lever movements from an oscillating shaft 26. The cylinder 18 operates two supplementary sets of needles 64 and 72, the former moving pivoted rods 60 to turn the griffe blades 50 so that they cannot engage the pattern hooks, whilst the latter control hooks 70, which, when engaged by the griffe blades, raise bars 55 and cause a complete row of pattern hooks to be lifted. The selvedge hooks 80 are controlled by the supplementary cards. A lag chain 45, with removable pegs 46 acting on a lever 42, renders inoperative at certain intervals the hook 36 which gives the rotatory movement to the pattern cylinder; a similar appliance may be fitted to the supplementary cylinder.
