Catalytic apparatus.-Apparatus for the execution in closed circuit of catalytic reactions between gases under pressure and at high temperature comprises in a single unit devices for heating the reacting gases, passing them through the catalyst, recovering heat from the reacted gases, cooling the latter, separating the products, and continuously circulating the reacting gases by means of an ejector. In the illustrated apparatus the reaction mixture entering at 2 passes through the spaces 3, 4, undergoing heat exchange with the hot reacted gases flowing through the space 5. It then passes through the tube 6 containing a heater 7, and thence into the catalyst space 8. The reacted gases traverse the space 5 and the cooling space 9 in which the reaction products are condensed and are subsequently withdrawn at 10 while unreacted gases are returned to circulation by the action of the ejector 11. The cooling space is surrounded by a tube 35 which has a helical groove on its outer surface forming a passage for the cooling medium. The whole is enclosed in a pressure-resisting shell 1.
