Latches, preventing operation of; latches, sliding.-A latch, particularly for motor vehicle doors, comprises a stamped sheet metal plate a with bent up flange b through which projects the bead c of a latch bolt having a stamped sheet-metal tail d with lugs f The tail is cranked at e to give the necessary clearance to the head of the bolt. The bolt may be retracted by an outside handle, not shown, operating a follower l engaging the crank e, and is shot by a spring l<1>. The bolt may also be retracted by a detachable lever handle g projecting through the upper edge of the door. This lever is slotted as shown to pivot on a stud h and has notches j to engage the lugs f and prevent endlong movement of the lever. The bolt may be locked against retraction by a pivoted member p engaging the tail of the bolt and operable by a finger-piece q. The outside handle may be locked against operation by a pivoted member r adapted to engage the follower I and operable by a key-operated cylinder lock, not shown, engaging the spindles.
