Driving-arrangements for screw propellers. - In manually-operated propelling gear boats freely oscillated crank arms are mounted on each end of the driving shaft and are associated through free wheel clutches with a crank arm on the shaft which carries a main crown wheel geared to the propeller shaft. The free arms may have extensions that are linked together so that the power stroke of one lever helps to return the other lever. The main driving shaft 15 is mounted in central bearings 16 and in addition to a crown wheel 14 carries the centre portion 18<a> of an externally toothed one-way member 18 which is adapted to be driven by projections 15<b> on oscillatable arms 15<a> which are freely mounted on the shalt 15. The arms 15<a> have pedals 19 and also extensions 15<c> the ball ends of which talse into slots 20<a> in a cross lever 20 pivoted at 20<b>. Movement of one lever forwarily results in the cross member 20 assisting to return the other lever. The crown wheel 14 gears with a pinion 13 on the propeller shaft 11 which also carries a fly wheel 25. In an alternative form of return motion the extensions 15<c> are attached to opposite sides of an endless cord supported by spaced pulleys. The propelling mechanism is wholly enclosed by the floor boards 22 and the seats 3 may be made adjustable.
