Abstract
327,017. Young, N. April 8,1929. Rotary furnaces.-The material discharged through outlets 3 at the lower end 2 of a rotary roasting, calcining, or sintering furnace 1 is cooled in a trough 9 along which it is conveyed to the discharge point 17 by vanes 10 provided on the outer surface, of the furnace. The trough 9 constitutes the lower part of a jacket 4 and is formed of refractory material having passages through which cooling air, entering at 12, passes to outlets 13 delivering into the space between the furnace 2 and jacket 4. Additional cooling air is admitted at 14 and a water-jet may be provided for hydrating the treated material. Seals 7, 8 are provided to prevent escape of the heated air which passes through the openings ;3 into the furnace to support combustion of fuel supplied through a burner 18.
